The problem in this book for me was the fact that although it is nicely written, there is never any real conflict or circumstance to create a situation to be resolved which anchors most books unless your writing a travel log. You can learn a lot of interesting history and meet some characters but everything is so sugar sweet and mostly all characters behave themselves so there is no excitement. I thought this was a great story, skillfully written with believable characters that draw you in from the beginning. the best parts of the book are the interactions with the characters as they develop from the begininng. If you are looking for a great story with beautiful characters and a strong plot that keeps the pages turning, check out "The Keep" and put it on your list of books to read.
A wonderful story with memorable, realistic and quirky characters who will stay with you long after you turn the last page. This well-developed story will keep you turning the pages until you reach the ending! Recommended for anyone who loves a good love story! A captivating story with mystery that will pull you into the beautiful world that Sherry Bult has created.
I liked the story and the characters, although at times they seem stiff. I understand the story was more about what was done to help others than it was about the characters, but it seemed to almost get to be dry Reading. And they did so much in such a short time it felt unrealistic. Over all though it WAS enjoyable.
I loved, loved, loved this book. Such a great read. Could not put it down. I felt like I was part of it all and the charcters had become my family. Cannot wait to read more about all the rest of these entertaining and generous people. If you love a great story, you have to read this book!
This book is one of the best I have read in a long while. I am excited to see several sequels in a series to come from this author. I was kept reading this book for several days, picking it up every chance I could get. I love the characters and the plot and the generosity of this family towards the less fortunate was absolutely amazing. I want to know who Thomas does in college. I want to know how Scotland improves and continues. I want to know how many girls from the streets live prosperous lives. Good clean eventful reading.
What a delightful book! I hardly could put it down. I loved it from the beginning to the end! I enjoyed the captivating writing style, the plot, the characters, and, of course, the mystery. A delightful read that left me smiling.
Patty is barely recovering from the distress of losing her beloved Grandma and best friend to learn that she has been left a fortune (Millions! In 1862 British Pounds!). She has also inherited a yearning to help those less fortunate than herself, so when she and her handsome young solicitor travel to Scotland to investigate a mysterious 'Keep' included in the will, she wastes no time in improving the lives of all she meets, in many wonderful ways. I stayed up way past any sensible bedtimes turning page after delicious, irresistible page. The last third of the book show further tribute to Grandma's essential nature, and the last pages left tears running down my face. Highly recommended!
